GoHawkeye began in 2012 by making short films about adaptive sport athletes overcoming challenges to live rewarding and healthy lives. We became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 2014 with the mission to help adaptive athletes and adaptive sport organizations through equipment and experience grants. 2022 has been an incredible year for us awarding $48,461 in grants. 19 adaptive athletes received grants ranging from $250-$14,000 for seven different kinds of equipment and seven different experiences.

Our equipment grants went for three monoskis, one road handcycle, one off-road handcycle, two off-road wheelchairs, one para-dressage saddle, one road bike, and a bowling ball with bag. Our experience athletes participated in recreation activities such as scuba, archery, fishing, skiing, biking, swimming, sailing, and ironman.

This year we helped medical student Paul Shaver reach his goal for an off-road handcycle through online donations and our pirate themed fundraiser raising $14,000. Paul, from North Carolina, was born with Spina Bifida. He uses a wheelchair but he hasn’t let that stop him from becoming a doctor or pursuing outdoor sports. We brought Paul out to Telluride to have him try a couple of different handcycles. He also attended the very successful pirate party fundraiser and enjoyed meeting with GoHawkeye supporters. Paul now has his own custom off road handcycle and has been riding as often as possible.

This was a productive and exciting year for us that helped change the lives of all these athletes through our equipment and experience grants and it wouldn’t have been possible without our donors and your help. Every donation, no matter the size, adds up to make a difference in a person’s life. Our dedicated volunteer board members work hard to insure that these grants go to deserving athletes. The fact that we are working from our homes results in very low overhead so you donation has maximum impact toward changing lives. Please help us continue our mission by making a year end DONATION.
